What happened Friday at Halas Hall:
QB updates
Bears starting quarterback Caleb Williams is still out with a Grade 2 hamstring strain, leaving coach Ben Johnson to choose between backup Tyson Bagent and third-stringer Case Keenum against the Jets on Sunday.
New left tackle
Bears left tackle Braxton Jones is out with a knee injury, and they’ll start Theo Benedet against the Jets. Ozzy Trapilo, the presumptive starter once he’s fully back from a knee injury, isn’t ready yet and won’t play. If Benedet struggles, the Bears could turn to backup Jordan McFadden or move left guard Joe Thuney to tackle.
All good
Bears running back D’Andre Swift didn’t practice Thursday (the team listed him as out with a knee injury), but was back to full participation Friday and is playing against the Jets. Johnson portrayed his Thursday absence as more rest than a serious concern, saying, "Whenever you get in a short week with running backs, that's what happens. He's still feeling the effects of a Monday night football game."
Secondary shuffle
The Bears listed Cam Lewis, an option at safety or nickel cornerback, as doubtful due to a hip injury. He didn’t practice Friday.
No Hall
The Jets ruled out three injured starters: running back Breece Hall, wide receiver Adonai Mitchell and linebacker Kiko Mauigoa. Hall rushed for 1,065 yards and four touchdowns last season.
